Zbrush to Maya

Hi,
I just finished a project with lots of SubTool, I would like animated it in Maya.
But then how to send my project in maya?

I heard that had to gather my Subtools in one, and put everything with the lowest subdivision and put it in maya but how?

If someone can explain in detail the steps in this manipulation (or another, perhaps easier) it would be nice.
Thank you in advance

PS : I’m on a MacBook Pro 15 Retina Display and i’m using Zbrush 4R5

Cordially.

This is actually a fairly involved process. I can give you an overview but unfortunately I don’t know specific details (although Lynda.com and Digital Tutors both have courses that cover the entire process).

Basically when you have your high res mesh in ZBrush you use it to bake maps onto (normal, spec, diffuse, etc). You then have to retopologize your mesh either in ZBrush or something like Topogun (Modo also has nice retopo tools if you have access to that). This way you can make your mesh animation friendly while still maintaining the same shape.

You then put that mesh in Maya, apply your maps, then rig and animate.

Sorry I can’t give more specifics but hopefully that overview will get you started in the right direction. It sounds like a lot of work but its actually pretty quick once you get the hang of it.

Sadly I haven’t done the whole process in a long time so I forget exactly how to do it

Here is a quick way.
With your model open in Zbrush click the “All” button in the Tool palette, the one next to the GoZ button.
That’s all you have to do!

Zbrush will do the rest for you. Zbrush will set all your subtools to the lowest level. If you have created colour maps, normal maps, displacement maps (except 32 bit), Zbrush will send these along with all the subtools to Maya and even set up the whole thing for you. All you have to do is render in mentalRay.

If you click the GoZ button only the active subtool will be sent to Maya, and if you click the “Visible” button only the visible subtool will be sent to Maya.

With your model open in Zbrush click the “All” button in the Tool palette, the one next to the GoZ button.
That’s all you have to do!

I allready try this, but either Zbrush shutdown, or Maya opens but i don’t have my project in, how to appear my project once on Maya ?

You have to first allow Maya to accept the ZBrush link and the GoZ function- you will see a GoZ icon in your Maya
pallet window once that’s done

Hope that helps
