I have looked and looked and every time I find something titled “Zbrush to Maya” it ends up being Maya to Zbrush. Is it possible to sculpt something in Zbrush then take it to Maya for animation.
yes but you will want to have re-meshed your character first and applied UVs.
You can use zb UV mapping methods, however you won’t be able to edit the maps in apps like photoshop.
Once you have good typology and uvs, then you can then generate your maps from your polypaint and disp and normal…then a handy new feature is to export your model as a maya ascii file .ma
When you open this in maya all the maps will be connected to a shader and the disp node will already be set up.
Select mental ray as your renderer and see the results…
Its usually pretty bang on although you may want to tweak the settings…either way its a good start if your uncertain of where to begin.
Than you. I hate to say it but I have not gotten as far as displacement maps and such. I am a complete newb, still figuring out what evrything in UI is and does. I’m curious because it takes me a long time to model in Maya. I can sculpt in clay so I figured I could pop out a character in Zbrush and then take it into Maya. Now I know it is possible. Thank you.
