Zbrush to Maya - displacement through transparency

Hello everyone.

I am new to zbrush and have just started using displacement maps. The potential seems really amazing. One issue I am having though, is that if I have an object that uses a displacement map inside another object that is slightly transparent, the first object does not render. I am sure people have come across this issue in the past, but I have not been able to find an answer. I am using mental ray by the way.

Thanks in advance for you help!

Sounds to me like you don’t have raytraced transparency enabled. Anyway, that’s a Maya question.

Yes, it is a maya question, but since it relates to displacement maps, and zbrush creates those, I figured I would ask here.

So where would I find “raytraced transparency”? I dont see it even in the manual.

Thanks again.

If the sightly transparent material turns black, then it’s a raytracing depth issue… go to

window > rendering editors > Render settings

Quality Tab > Raytracing Quality

Set the refractions to a value bigger than 1,

If your object is not rendering black… could you tell us a little more about the settings of that material??
