Zbrush to Keyshot import Problem

Hello i downloaded a demo of keyshot for rendering my models im stil new to Zbrush and 3D art in general.
My problem is that i dont get my character imported to keyshot with the polypaint data. I couldnt find a tutorial that could help me with my problem so i hope here someone might help me.
some specific questions:
what is the maximum polycount i can import to keyshot?
can someone describe the way to make the uv maps to be importet within a obj file?

Regards Laslo

i don’t know know anything about keyshot so can’t really help you with that.
not sure what you mean by “with the polypaint data” as polypaint is applied right onto the polygons, i doubt another program can read that.

but as far as making UVs that will be imported with the obj into another program that’s easy.

makes sure your model is at the lowest subdivisions, then go to Zplugins>UVMaster and unwrap it.
if you don’t have the plugin installed you can find it on this forum.

you can then turn your polypaint into a texture.

export the model as an obj, then when you import it into keyshot it will have the UVs you made in zbrush and you should be able to apply the texture to it.

when a model is exported as an obj, an “mtl” file is automatically generated, make sure that file is in the same folder as the obj when you import it. if it’s not the UVs won’t show up.

thank you i got it now =) i had to unwrap first like you said
but through the texture maps i lost a lot of detail of the polypaint =(
what can i do to get better results out of the texture map?
it should be possible i always see really great renders here on this site

Kind Regards Laslo

Hi Laslo, I had a similar issue but with a bit of trial and error I was able to find a solution. When using multi-map exporter to export you maps from zbrush to keyshot you are given the option to also export your mesh. This works fine but make sure you export your mesh at the highest sudD level and delete the lower levels, otherwise your maps wont retain detail once in Keyshot and your model will look very low res when polypaint maps are applied. There may be another way to do this but it worked for me. I’m eagerly awaiting the release of Goz for Keyshot which eliminates the need for maps altogether. Anyways, Hope this helps, all the best.
