Zbrush to Keyshot bundle - needs some work?

Hi There

Hope to make this a kinda trouble shoot FAQ thread maybe? But I got the bridge bundle and ran into a few snags. I immediately opened my previous models to see how ZB and KS will handle them. I have some pretty big scenes. The irony is that the smaller scenes does not seem to want to go to keyshot. But the more complex (42 subtools - 36 mil polys) did its thing after a waiting a bit. So wondering is there a trouble shoot guide or something in my scene causing zbrush to freeze?

Cause if you cancel the export to ks command zbrush bombs and you have to exit all programs. Then the other project pretty big but not the biggest I waited very long to go to keyshot and then saving from keyshot my file size was 12 GB !!! So just wondering if a patch or maybe a ZB to KS for dummies might be available some where?

But when it works wow it is simply genius! Below had to make slight adjustments lighting and material to get it back to the look I wanted but very little. This mech is a very heavy scene and worked pretty well, tad slow. But other scenes less complex did not so wondering something in my scene or just bugs that need to be worked out? Comment and feedback regarding plugin would be great!.

I was on the beta testing team, and there are a few things I would like to know. The primary question is how much ram you have in your rig, and also how many cores are there in your CPU. ZBRUSH and Keyshot are both rampires, and Keyshot will really lock up all the cores. Are you running 32 or 64 bits?

I had problems early in the beta testing with meshes that were really old, like Zbrush 3 old. Those issues were dealt with long before the release. One thing that did seem to help was saving the models in 4R7 before sending them to Keyshot. If your computer is older, Then that could be a big part of it.

@Carver

I agree that Keyshot in particular is extremely resource intensive. If you want to be doing anything else on your machine at the same time that Keyshot is crunching away, I find it useful to limit the core usage and spare one for general system operation. I don’t find it makes too much of a difference in preview rendering, and it makes everything else on the machine much smoother. I’ll give it all the cores if I’ve set it for a dedicated render, and am ready to walk away from the machine for a bit.

I don’t have too much trouble with 64 bit ZB, but then, I havent really started working with gratuitous polycounts yet.

BTW, nice mech, OP!

@carver

My pc is not the top range but also not a baby I think. 32 ram ddr3, Intel core i7-3930K 3.2 Ghz, GTX 680 nvidia (although prob doesn’t matter).

I noticed the spike in ram, and was like yay for the first time I am utilizing it and then aaah dammit I need more :lol:

So 32 ram and 12 cores
My meshes are Vr 4 r6/r5 old but think mostly r6 so one version back old.

Lastly the heading might be a bit mis leading and not sure how to change it, cause not saying the bridge sucks just need some input and suggestions :smiley: - I am probably the problem doing something weird… I have this funny feeling that new projects will go smoothly and that there is something somewhere causing this, due to versions but would be great if I knew what to look for. I tried going through each subtool but zbrush crashes if you cancel import to ks so it’s a bit of a frustrating test. But when I have time will do it again.

Thanks for the reply

@spyndel - Thanks!
