Zbrush to Blender, Displacement maps, and any General Advice ..

Hi Guys,

I looked around these forums to find definitive stuff about moving meshes from Zbrush to Blender and then applying Displacement maps to that mesh in Blender. Anyone here done this? Tell us about any “Gotchas”? Best procedure?

Any help in this matter appreciated,

Cheers
Aidan

…exactly that you want! Video Zbrush / Blender
In french but you have the images!

you might want to check out cannedmushrooms also.

The best way to use displacement maps in blender, is to apply it to a model via the displacement modifier rather than through the texture panel. (you will probably need to do a levels adjustment on the displacement map in PS or Gimp to get any decent results)

if you are UV mapping in blender then exporting to ZB make sure you have the keep vert order button (used to be the morph target button)checked in the OBJ import/export box.

normal maps in blender don’t seem to work all that well yet so if you don’t see anything when you have applied one just ramp up the Nor slider (you may need to apply the map more than once if you are using a node material)

hope that helps
and sorry if you already knew most of that
