Zbrush Skuls to Silver ones...

sugar-skull.jpg

Heyo,

Haven’t posted because I don’t find my models so exciting due to my size limitations for fabrication.

I find I cant really reduce anything bigger than 1.3mil polys or so and retain any detail.

And because I actually have to have the detail in the model no texture maps that’s not so big.

I wish I could find something that would reduce huge meshes and still keep the details.

( that doesn’t cost tens of thousands) dream on…

but my friend convinced me to post pics of my latest piece
“Calavera de Azúcar” (sugarskull) thinking you may find the process interesting.

I did the block up in modo, sculpted it in zbrush.
I have go back into rhino “urgh” to do the sizings and build the milling paths.

so these are screen caps of the model in zbrush and the finished product in sterling silver…

Hope you like…

Dude, that’s awesome!!

Be proud. I am glad your friend convinced you to post. This is a great application for ZB.
Quick question, did you do the master in wax and then further detail? Or was the output left as is and then molded and cast?

Exciting to see!

That’s attention to detail man, hella talent right there.

these are just off the mill.

I sometimes touch up by hand but my new cutters are so nice and clean, not much need to do so. but that is as it came off the mill.

Thanks for the kind words.

I used to all this by hand.

I love Zbrush I just wish I could produce the models I can sculpt in it… But you have to ballance detail and reducebility. at the end I usually reduce the model 85% to 90% down to 100,000 polys or so.

so you details get blown out in the reduction.

sorry for the double post.
didnt answer the question…

those are belt buckles for a company out of oakland…

Keep it up!

Awesome skull!

Incredible work Wittelsbach! After having a look around your website, I am really impressed with all your work. The ever growing use of Zbrush in so many industries really intrigues me.

I hope you post some more

thanks for the positive responses…
I will post more.
as I said I didnt think my models were very exciting compared to all this hi-res work.

I use a Revo mill. it’s nice for a belt driven mill. but it was an afordable intro mill.
I’m shopping RP machines. I have a big show in february well see how it goes before I drop $200,000 on a growing machine…

oh but when I do… yeaaaa

thanks again.

Your server times out…

Great work and a great idea!

T.S.Wittelsbach,

You are doing some awesome stuff!! I have been looking into getting into 3D milling, but I wasn’t sure about the process of going from a 3D model to CNC, is it easy to get from zbrush or other 3D program into a runable model?

Below is a link to Roland who makes some really cool mills for jewelry.

Keep up the great work

actually it’s an insane pain in the butt. Zbrush produces insainly dense meshes. dense meshes drives the programs that produce tooling paths crazy.

I have to get the meshes down in the hundred thousand poly range. suposedly there are some good decimation programs out there I’m still trying to find one that will even open a file that has 4 million polys. Then you export to obj and convert to stl… then you can generate tooling paths.

when can we export stls from zbrush?

if you ever have any questions I’ll help you as much as I can…
