Zbrush rescale issues

Hello guys, I ran into a small problem and not sure if there is a fix for it. here is the prob:

OKay lets say you imported a obj file from any 3d pakage in zbrush and started to sculpt to your neeeeeeds!. All is done right. Then we notice the scale of the model is a tad too big. So we then re scale the model down to its correct size and then re export that out as a obj. Import that back into zbrush over your current tool and all is done. But when you then subdivide it, the model bloats or inflates crazy proportions.

Is there a way in zbrush to reset its scale to match the scaled version that was edits from another 3d package or no can do?

This should work:

  1. Change your model in Maya and export.
  2. Back in ZBrush, go to level 1 of the model you’ve been working on.
  3. Press Tool>Import and load the new version.
  4. Return to the higher subdivision levels.
Provided that the point order hasn’t changed, the effect should be exactly the same as if you moved the points at level 1 within ZBrush. The higher levels respond to that change to move your high level sculpt.

Sorry to necro-thread this, but I just tried the suggested technique in 3.5r3 and it doesn’t work right. Point order isn’t change, but when I dial my subdivisons up on the rescaled and imported tool most of my details get smoothed out.

Steps I took:

  • exported each subtool as obj
  • imported them all in to Max, grouped them together and scaled them
  • ungrouped them and exported each part back out as new OBJ files
  • imported the scaled OBJs back into respective subtools, scaling happened as expected in ZB.

Then I tried to dial the subdivision levels back up and I ran into the smoothing issue.
