Zbrush randomly scaling my scene constantly

Hi, ive been using Zbrush for quite some time and I continuously run into the same problem of Zbrush randomly scaling and offsetting my objects when I try to export my objects back to maya. I import my basemesh into the scene and after sculpting I export my mesh back into maya only to find it has become extremely small and often times not even centered on the axes. There is no cosistancy on when or how this happens, it just seems to happen. Which absolutely kills my workflow because extracting accurate displacement maps and tweaking models is impossible.

Ive searched online and haven’t found a solution which is strange because my workmates all experience the same thing. And Ive experienced it happening on multiple workstations. How can this be avoided? and How can I fix my scene which has already been affected.

Thanks for any help

Zbrush scales objects on import to be the “right” size for Zbrush.

The simplest way to make this never happen is to always select a default object (I always use the star), and use subtool master multi-append to add objects to your tool.

This forces all meshes to adopt the scale options of the main mesh (which will be scale 1, position xyz 0,0,0).

You’ll never have that problem again.

Awesome thanks for telling me that. I’ll make sure to do that in the future. One question though. Is there a way to reverse what has happened to my ztool? It would be a huge pain to scale and reproject onto the correct scaled Mesh since iv have already done so much sculpting already.

Not really.

If you want the correct scale you’re going to have to scale the one you worked on.

The scale in Zbrush is set by two values, the scale of the mesh and the export-import values. The last ones is probably the one is creating you problems.
It affects all subtools of a tool and each tool can have different values. It is set in the bottom of the tool sections. If you have a tool that have the correct size and other than not perhaps could get the correct size copying these values from the correct tool to the incorrect tool. this will change all the transformation values of the subtools of that tool.
