Zbrush randomly pancakes my figure

Hello, i’m new to zbrush, but have been following the forums for quite some time.
Here is my problem. While working on my figure in Zbrush, quite randomly, my figure will be smashed, into a pancake form. all of the form and detail will be there, but just flattened as if a steam roller just flattened him.
i am working at the 5th-7th subdivision levels, and it still pancakes at all levels. 500,000 active points to 6.5million active points.
All of my subtools are still there, everything is there, just pancaked.
I then open a Polyshpere to test it out, and opening a new sphere, it opens pancaked. As well as a box, and any other tool, they all opened pancaked.
Lastly, the pancaked figure is only partially shown. I rotate and move the figure around, and it is as if he is under a heavy light. Its hard to explain, but portions of the figure dissapear as i move it around.
please help, as this happens often, and I have to close the program and reopen it to fix the problem.
Thank you for the help!
I am working on a Mac Pro, if that affects anything.
is this just a bug? or something else? thank you!

Your Draw>Z Intensity setting before drawing the models on the canvas is very low. Clear the canvas, set the Z Intenisty to 100, then draw the model.

thanks for the quick reply,
This “pancake” effect doesn’t happen when i draw the figure on the canvas. It happens spontaneously while working on the figure itself. Using brushes, working on details, etc. While working on it, BAM! pancake, out of nowhere, and the figure becomes centered on the screen, pancaked.
(apologies for my Novice wording, i’m still learning zbrush)

There are two possibilities that I can think of, although I have no idea why either would be happening. The most likely one is that something is somehow triggering the Size deformation. I can’t help but wonder if it’s not a plugin that you have installed. What happens if you launch ZBrush with plugins deactivated? (You do this by double-clicking to launch ZBrush, then immediately holding Shift until the app finishes loading.) Does the issue stop?

Ok, i’ve been working on this for a while. When i startup zbrush by double clicking with shift, disabling the plugins, my figure does not become pancaked while working on it. (so far anyways)
But, the only plugin I use is “image plane”, which i recently downloaded the updated version for Mac. With this plugin activated, i can work for a little bit, but it eventually does pancake. Sometimes, i don’t even have to work on the figure, just rotating it to get a better view, it will pancake.

So, am I supposed to work without ImagePlane? it is a very useful tool to have the reference image behind the figure i’m working on.
i wonder if anyone else is having this issue with the updated mac ImagePlane plugin?

Your pretty damn good Aurick, thanks for your help, some advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks battlemonkey, that’s very useful. Can you tell us if the pancaking happens:

(a) Only when you have used Image Plane to place a reference image behind the model.

OR

(b) Any time you are modeling?

Thanks,

The “pancaking” only happens when i have a reference image in the background. Sometimes it only takes one click with the image in the background for it to “pancake”.
I’ve been working for over an hour, without a reference image in the bg, but without fully turning off all the plugins. So ImagePlane is available, but I just don’t load the background image, and everything works fine.

OK, thanks. I’ll look into it.
