Zbrush r4 custom ui problems - please help!

Since r2 and upon seeing the EAT 3D hard surface video…I have been used to the Custom Menu Workflow…If you use this workflow, be prepared to cry a little…

Since then I’ve had an issue which once was fixed with UI_Starter plugin…in r4 it appears that it does not work…

When you make a custom menu or “pallet”- it shoots back in alphabetical order at the top, customize and put all the tools you use and store configs…restart Zbrush and BAM…every time you try to open your custom menu or the lets say “preferences” it opens the “render” pallet…Oddly enough though in r4, everything BEFORE your custom menu works fine when you try to open the pallet, but everything AFTER the custom menu is 1 pallet off…

Not only that but I tried putting some TRANSFORM options “Symmetry, xyz and radial” into my CUSTOM menu, and once I stored and restarted and my strokes section in my CUSTOM menu became " Active Symmetry " followed by “make polymesh 3D, goZ, All, Clone Allsubtools” No idea what that’s about…

1St I imported my r3 settings and tried - didn’t work…then I reinstalled Zbrush and deleted all folders in my program files and in the new Public Documents Folder…made it in r4 from scratch same issue…so It has nothing to do with the old settings being incompatible with r4…If anyone can help I’d appreciate it or knows of a fix like an updated version of UI_starter

Try this…

  1. Press Preferences:Config:Enable Customize
  2. Locate your custom palette and drag it to the right or left shelf.
  3. CTRL+OPTION click on the title of your palette and rename it to start with the ‘~’ symbol. Example: “~MyMenu”
  4. Save your custom UI and restart ZBrush.

Oh ok, putting the ~ in front of the menu name did appear to fix the issue…The second issue though is in my custom menu i have “active symmetry xyz and radial” When I import a Ztool from the library it’s ok…but when I use a shape within Zbrush and hit Make Polymesh 3D - it changes my Active symmetry xyz and radial to -

I see the same behavior. The buttons change when you press the make Polymesh 3D button.

Do note use the custom UI starter file from 4R2. It is not compatible with 4R4 and is likely to create issues.

For the moment, I recommend creating macros where you select the specific options you would like to be able to put in your custom UI. You can even assign hotkeys to the macro buttons. Once created, the macros can be placed anywhere in your UI that you’d like.

i have to join to Artur with this case… no one macros will not give me enought functionality with radial symmetry settings for example… buttons are disappear whenever they want. In 4r3 it all worked fine. Can you fix this problem?

Macros are a pain, I did download a little plugin that someone made for all the symmetry…except there is no radial count slider so you still have to go to the top menus and there is no point in even having the macro…How would I make a Macro for a Radial Count Slider?

The buttons in the in the macro do not stay lit whenever pressed, so they appear as not toggled but are…by the end I had no what was on and what was not on…I agree there should be a fix for this…I guess for now I’ll be using the main symmetry tools rather than making a custom one…

I have the same problems of loading my UI from r3 - Customization the buttons of “Active points” and “Active symmetry”.

I try to use button Restore Custom UI after loading Zbrush and this is works.
(Before u have to customize ur own UI save and store it).
P.S. … and one more. I think it restores after “Make polymesh 3D”

The trouble is not obly with symmetry. Theres more. For example both dynamesh and shadowbox buttons dosappeared from the panel along with all of it’s sliders :frowning:
