I had finished up the retopology of a mermaid I made in ZBrush but now I have stumbled across an issue I haven’t encountered before. I need some help figuring out what is wrong with the projection shell that I’m using to project the scales and other details onto the model. Usually, I just slowly pull the projection shell slider to the right for the new topology to gradually engulf the old one. However, with my mermaid, I discovered that it only does that when I pull the slider to the left in the negative values (which I haven’t used with projection before). When I do pull the slider to the right, it has this really weird effect of seemingly pulling out the topology of the inside of the mouth and eye sockets first before the rest of it (after expanding past the old model) seems like an unrecognizable mess! It almost seems like the slider has been switch around somehow so that the negative values are positive and the positive ones are negative (if that is possible)! I’ve tried some different things to see what works such as using negative values on the left while clicking the ‘inner’ button, trying different values on the distance slider, etc. While the model may look fine (such as having no odd spikes that stick out, etc.) I’ve noticed that the scales and other fine details aren’t being picked up. Am I just making some sort of rookie mistake that I haven’t noticed yet? Is there any advice for what I can do to fix it so I can get a proper projection? I’ve tried Googling projection shell errors but I haven’t found an answer for me yet. I’ll also add a link to some pics I took so hopefully they can help if possible. Thanks in advance!
