ZBrush Project Fails to Load

Good day, I have run into a rather disheartening problem. I have been working on a realistic human skeleton model, and everything saved/worked just fine during the last session. However, I try to load it a day later and ZBrush tells me that it fails to load a tool and aborts the load. I have put a lot of work into this, and I fear the worst. I kept my model very clean and the poly counts were not even that high. There were quite a few subtools, maybe 20-25 or so, but I did not think that would be a problem.

Is there any possible way of saving many days worth of work?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

What is the file size on disk?

What happens if you set Preferences>Performance>PreLoad File Size to the maximum value?

Thank you for the reply aurick. The file size is only 199MB. I have worked with projects that have sizes around 2GB before and never had any problems.

Unfortunately, setting PreLoad File Size to the maximum (in my case 500) does not fix the loading issue.

Unfortunately it sounds like the project has become corrupted somehow. In that case there is no way to recover it.

When saving your work it is recommended to save incrementally. In other words, each new save is a new file. It’s a good idea to keep the three most recent saves on hand that way, just in case something goes wrong.

Also, if you are working on a single model it is best to save as a Tool rather than a Project. Only use the Project format if you have a bunch of document settings or multiple models that you’re working with. The ZTL format is less system intensive.

Well thanks anyway for the support aurick. I figured this was the likely outcome, but oh well. From now on I will use ZTools–I suppose the use of projects here was a bit unneccessary. The only thing I can think of is that I had too many subtools–what is the maximum number of subtools a tool can have?

Thank you.
