Zbrush polypainting rendered in Clarisse iFX

Hi,

I’m Yann Couderc, from Isotropix… we added polypainting support in Clarisse and I wanted to share a new technique to work with Zbrush models… You just have to save your polypainted model to OBJ, load it and use the embeded polypainting information in your shaders. Currently Zbrush support RGB + MASK, so you are limited to one color channel + one grayscale (you can use it to control specular, reflection… ), but you can also use them as 4 grayscale channels using a reorder , for example to drive diffuse, luminosity, reflection and glossiness with a single vertex map (this is a good old technique used for a long time to save memory with classic maps).
Of course, we would be very happy if Zbrush could export more than one vertex map… working with the exact zbrush model, without any conversion and map generation is so cool

Shading network example : the left one use the map to control the diffuse, as seen in the view, the right one is an example of reordering to control different channels.

Thanks for watching !

That is really cool, I was wondering if Zbrush and Clarisse worked well together. I had seen the software a while back but the price tag was a bit heavy for me at the moment. It is a nice process, have you had any luck with other software that may be a bit cheaper?

Maybe I’m wrong, but as far as I know, only Clarisse iFX currently support polypainting… Maybe this feature will be added to other software, but to keep the polypainting quality,
you 'll need to keep the model without decimation, so it will also have to support extreme polycount, without using much memory, which is not an easy problem to solve…

This sounds pretty cool!
Just wondering the less response.
Specially as it is same as keyshot pro4 + animation for some days left.
Is this working with the personal learning edition too?
For testing.
Or do I have to get the trial for testing?

Cheers!

Only Clarisse???
Of course you are wrong.
Polypaint is vertex paint. You’ll find a lot of apps supporting it around. Like 3dcoat, like blender, etc etc.
Export a VRML under 3d print plugin of zbrush, import it to an app like blender and you have it as vertexpaint. Render it.
