ZBrush 'Paintings' -- Pushing 2.5D

It IS possible to convert the canvas to a 3D object for BPR render using Francesco Mai’s Pixol-to-3D plugin. However, the challenge is that the pixol canvas is only really meant to be viewed from one angle, so that if you tried to get 2 decent angles for each side of the binocular effect you might begin to see the worst parts of the fact that many features on the work in question would have no ‘sides’, just ‘fronts’! My guess is that some pixol canvases could be modified and reworked to get it done, but that anything that really played with a lot of depth would be near impossible, or just plain too difficult to justify the effort.

Having said that — you are probably familiar with HR Giger’s experiments in this area where he painted a stereogram series BY HAND…if an artist of that magnitude took the challenge, they could prepare two separate pixol canvases and simply get it to be perfect by eye!!! Maybe that person is you!!!

Fantastic! Really interesting stuff! I’m excited to work my way through all of it slowly and really absorb the conceptual explorations!

…that you are taking the time here and there to work through the sequence. I want to learn, but also collaborate with others to develop a discipline, or area, around related approaches. That means sharing work and generating discussion, forming hypotheses, and constantly returning to “try what I have never tried before”!

Hi MhuedD

I’m really liking those last two that you posted…They have the feel of stained glass with sunlight shining through it, like you might see in a cathedral…:):+1:

…maybe to run with your take on it and make the materials actually translucent with a back-lit light source!

I like the evolutionary approach you are using for all these pieces

…that by being extremely thorough and patient that each of these will become a component method in larger, more ambitious pieces later. The proof will be in the pudding, and I don’t know how good that tastes yet.

hey Mhued im waiting from another piece from you

LVXIFER: Thanks for the ‘poke’…I am deep in the Dungeon doing some research in UltraFractal and in some iterative Zbrush mesh stuff that I think you will find interesting…will come out with that soon.

This morning I was thinking of iterative processes relative to Pixol-to-3D plugin conversion…that is…you convert to 3D, draw out the tool a bunch of times, convert to 3D again, etc. Here is something that came out of that:

Iterativep3D_1.jpg

one of your best piece, i can’t recognize what is done in Zbrush…i think all the reliefs and polypaint? very very interesting

…with a little touch of PS color adjustment at the end!

This is really good stuff.

…make a little poster with your explorations?

Here mine

your way of working in 2.5d with zbrush is spectacular and very fascinating
