I was just wondering, in today’s “Next Gen” pipeline, Do most character artist unwrap there models using 3d max, or are they starting to use zbrush’s unwrap features more often? Because I know you can just poly paint on textures and whip them out really quickly and import them in to max, I just was wondering what is still preferred in the industry?
Can anyone shed some light on this? thanks
hey there,
i am not in the industry, but i am pretty sure they are NOT using zbrush-unwrapping. it can be used for illustrations but for animation content zbrush uv-layouts are too chaotic i think.
cheers

Having been in the industry for a number of years as a character artist, I don’t use Zbrush’s unwrapping features. I find other programs quicker for unwrapping. That’s not to say it can’t be done in Zbrush because it can but for accuracy and speed, I don’t know anyone in the industry who uses that particular feature in Zbrush.
Hope that helped!
Best tool for UV Unwrapping that I’ve found is UV Layout, hands down. UV Layout is made by Headus.
