Just wondering what to do now that I have a good normal map for a model i have in maya. I know how to load a texture map to a shader, but I dont know what to do with a normal map. I hope this makes sense. I just need to know how to load the normal map in maya on the same shader as my texture map
i’m not using Maya tbh… but I think it is in Bump mapping inside your shader then load the normal map file. then once you done, you click the Back button until you find the bump2d then change the “Use as” dropdown list to Tangent Space Normal. then assign and render.
ive been working on a character for ages and want to render in maya, but im having trouble displaying normal maps correctly. right so i have modelled the character and spent ages unwrapping, after that i imported to zbrush, i have then subdivided 5-7 levels and sculpted then exported meshes at level 1 for maya then ive extracted normal maps using zmapper (im using 3.1 by the way) then ive assigned normal maps to maya object (low res) via bump slot but im getting flat pieces and things just aint working (see images) can anyone please help here?
also how do you post a new thread on here and how do you turn on mental ray in maya?
please help it will be appreciated!

If you have parts of your sculpt too far away from the base geometry you might get some problems. Many of these can be sorted out in zmapper, but you might want to change the base mesh or sculpt to be a little closer together.
