zbrush newbie

hey everybody, I have a few questions about using zbrush. after watching some tutorials for zbrush I’m wondering why some people do base mesh in programs like maya, and then export them and sculpt in zbrush? can I have a nice topology and uv layout if I complete every step in zbrush? how actually do you create uv map if you create a whole character from beginning in zbrush? thanks.

You can do everything from start to finish in ZBrush. ZSpheres are a great way to start creating your base mesh. You can also create the base mesh in another app and bring it into ZBrush. It really comes down to personal preference, as well as the needs of the particular project.

Try reading the interviews here at ZBC (there’s a subforum beneath the Main forum that is all interviews). Many people have shared their preferred methods of working.

As for UV’s, they’re easy to assign in ZBrush. The onine documentation (see my signature) tells how.
