Zbrush maxing cpus and freezing

I’m a Zbrush student and recently when I try to work at home on a 3 million poly model, no layers, no subtools, it freezes my whole system. I have been using system monitor and my 4 core cpu usage goes through the roof just before crashing. I didn’t think Zbrush was that hard on systems. Perhaps mine is just puny, but it is well within system recs…

Quad Core Q6600
8 Gigs ram
quadro fx 3800
Win 7 home premium 64 bit

Is there some setting I should change in Zbrush or do I just need a beefier rig? Anything is appreciated, Thanks!

Check out this post for optimal Mem settings. You will find these settings in Preferences > Mem in ZBrush. You shouldn’t have to much problem running ZBrush on your system.

Also, even though you have a decent graphics card, ZBrush doesn’t care about that. It relies more on CPU and RAM.

…I have actually adjusted that already. I don’t think that is the issue. Resource monitor shows zbrush using minimal memory, but maxing all 4 cores of my cpu until it freezes. The things I have tried to alleviate this issue are:
I have uninstalled and re-installed zbrush.
I have tested my memory and hard drives for faults (got an all clear on both)
I have scanned for viruses, etc,
I have all the latest drivers for mobo, audio, video, and tablet.
I have run zbrush barebones with no other programs or background tasks.

Thanks for the help, I’m sure you’d rather be sculpting, as would I!

I would suggest you go to the Support Center and submit a ticket. If it’s your first time, you will have to register first.

Thanks!
