ZBrush loses window focus. Anyone else having this issue?

Hi guys,

I’ve been having an issue ever since updating to ZBrush 4R5 (uninstalling and reinstalling didn’t help) where the ZBrush window will lose focus but only with the keyboard.

For example I’ll be able to draw in the window but Zbrush doesn’t recognize any keyboard commands. The weird thing is the menu at the top will disappear and be some other application. Notice in the screen shot how Safari is up top instead of ZBrush.

I can keep drawing my subtool out with the mouse but ZBrush is ignoring the keyboard.

Anyone else having this happen?

EDIT: I should note that once this happens I can’t even close ZBrush since the mouse doesn’t respond to UI elements. I have to force quit it. The window never regains focus.

This is a problem I never heard about ZBrush. Does this problem happen when you only have ZBrush running and the Finder?
Do you have some window utility manager or Finder utilities?

Hi Tyoto,

I can replicate it with just ZBrush running. Its not super common but happens mostly when I load or append larger sub tools (about 200 - 300 MB in size).

I have no type of special customizations, just a plain install of OSX Mountain Lion.

I did get it to successfully regain focus once but it took many tries of clicking the ZBrush window and dock icon (it seemed to regain during one of the times I hit the dock icon). Usually I just have to go to Force -> Quit -> ZBrush.

Currently i work around it by waiting 30 seconds to a minute after ZBrush is finished loading or appending a larger subtool

Same answer as the other thread you open, you should contact our support. You have two strange behaviors with your ZBrush which are unknow to me. Then perhaps something is wrong with your ZBrush.

While waiting, I suggest you removing ZBrush folder, doing the same for the /Users/Shared/Pixologic and /Users/Shared/ZBrushdata, downloading the full ZBrush 4R5 full installer from our download center at pixologic.com, then doing a new fresh install and try again.

Thank you  Will do.

I’ve done a re-installation already with the installer but I don’t believe it removes the folders you mention since on my other computer I still see the ZBrush 4R4 folder. I will try this again and manually remove the folders before I open a ticket.

No, the installer doesn’t remove the ZBrushData folder.
