Zbrush - Locked up or processing?

Hello all,

Zbrush 4.0
Windows 7 64 bit
AMD 6 core
8 Gigs of RAM

Quite often I will initiate a process (extract, remesh, etc) and my Zbrush will lock up/white screen on my personal machine as well the one at work.

Most of the time I’ll just kill the process and start again from my last save.

What I want to know is how do I know if Zbrush is processing or at the point of no return.

I go to Task Manager to find the process’s memory set changing as time goes along. Furthermore according to my CPU history a couple of my cores are balls to the wall.

So what’s the straight dope? Tonight I’m sitting on 30 minutes on a mesh extract on a 2.6 million subtool.

Thank you much

I don’t have Windows 7 but I understand that this can happen with memory intensive operations. There shouldn’t be any need to kill the process.

EDIT: though 30 minutes is way too long. I’ll check that this issue is being looked at by the developers.

Hey marcus_civis, thank you for replying.

Murphy’s law as it is, as soon as I Alt-Tabbed back over to Zbrush after posting, it had finished the extract and was no longer locked. Having been working on a personal project I was able to just leave it for the most part and let it do it’s thing. At work however, with time being an issue I’ve always interrupted and started again with a quicker technique.
