Zbrush Lighting help

I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out zbrush lighting. Can someone who has figured this out please post the .ztl file for me. I could love to go through it and figure out what I’m missing. Surely someone here has a quick good looking plug and play setup they use. Any help would be really appreciated.

Well, there are several different lighting methodologies and not real sure which you are referring to. There are the traditional materials like skinshade4, basic material and others which will react to the lights in the Light palette that are positioned via the sphere thumbnail in there. There are Lightcaps which are akin to IBL (image based lighting) where you can create a light rig based off an image (or make your own one light at a time). Lastly, you can simulate lighting in the MatCap materials by painting highlights on that materials sphere thumbnail and reimporting it back into the material.

The Matcaps do not respect the traditional lights insofar as specular highlights/illumination goes. That might be where you are getting hung up. You can adjust the orientation of the lighting info baked into the matcap though. Here are some tutorials you might find helpful:

Also, in the install directory of Zbrush there is a manual. Possibly try reading that if all else fails.
