ZBrush keeps on crashing !

Hey guys,

i´m currently working on a character with 5 subdivision levels. The highest subdivision is at 15 Million Polygons. The lowest is at 61k polygons. My workflow is atm just painting some alpha maps for skin displacement. After some drawing Zbrush crashes and I can start from the beginning. Shouldn´t I paint on that polycount or what is the best method to flood the whole character with some skin texture. I´ve been searching for hours : google, communities, but nothing could solve my problem.

My system:

2 x 2.8 GHz QuadCore Intel Xeon, 8 GB 800 Mhz DDR 2.

Maybe I just have to set my preferences… i just don´t know. The character has to be photo realistic, so I´ve searched thousands of tutorials etc.

Thanks for your help,
John

Which version/release of ZBrush are you using? Which operating system? Is there a particular feature that you’re using at the time of crash, such as Lazy Mouse?

Thanks for your interest ! I´m using 3.2 on MAC OS X 10.6 ! I don´t use any specific tool. I adjusted the mem pref to 4096 ( i´ve got 8 gig of ram ), that solved the problem for some time. One example: I´m skulpting on a mesh on highest subdiv. Then I´m searching for some examples in my browser, go back to zbrush, it says “Reading memory” and then it closes and gives me an error.
