ZBrush issues on Mac 27"

Hi all,

I’ve got ZBrush 3.12 running like a dream on a newish MacBook Pro.

I just installed it on a brand new Imac 27" and I get serious graphic issue in the view port. If I load an object I get Squares appearing around the object and it disappears regularly

 • 27-inch model with quad-core processor:
 •
• ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory
Both machines are the models with two cards but the MacBook has an Nvidia card and the Imac has an ATI.

Any ideas please. I can post screen shots if needed.

Check your preferences>mem settings. I’m not sure about the caliber of the actual ram w/ the GDDR3 thing. Sounds spicy. However, half a gig isn’t much. You need to have the compact mem set low enough to allow for your OS and any background apps to have the ram they need. Maybe 256 or lower. I’m not sure how much Snow Leopard requires (which I assume you have), or if 3.2 is ready for it.

If the iMac is upgradable, throw some more ram in that bad boy. If you can give ZBrush a full 4 gigs, do it :wink: From what I understand, ZBrush performance benefits a lot from memory availability. It’s not open gl, so I don’t know how much graphics cards have influence. I’m just an artist not a tech guy.

Now that doesn’t mean this issue couldn’t be from some other compatibility problem. I’ve just had various issues w/ not enough ram, and also by having compact mem set too high.

I have the 27"imac with the i7 processor but the same graphics card. I assume you have the stock 4GB of ram and the 512MB GDD3 is the video card memory.
Just to say that I’ve not seen any graphics issues as you describe. I’m running ZBrush 3.2. There’s no reason not to update to this version.

Damn it. I forgot about 3.2, what a dick. I only just switched over from Windows and this is a new machine with all new software. I’ll download it now and hopefully it will solve the issue. Many thanks fellas.

All sorted. The upgrade seems to have sorted it all out :}
