ZBrush hard crash and File Corruption.

Have been working for ZBrush a long time haven’t seen this before.

I was working as usual —

  1. Extracted a mesh.
  2. Selected that new extracted mesh subtool.
  3. cleared mask, polished it a bit and ran dynamesh.
  4. realized the mesh didn’t look good so hit ’ delete subtool '.

The program froze, then my entire computer froze, then Windows tried to ’ say yes to close program’ but completely froze, CTRL ALT DELETE did not register or work. I let the computer stay hung up for 5 minutes.

I was forced to hit the power button to force a reboot.

When I tried to load my last file, it gives me this error ’ List: Error while reading m_main.m_pMem (contact Pixologic support).

My last file save is 30 minutes prior, quicksave 29 minutes old.

Autosave is not a viable option as the autosave pause is too long and interrupting to work flow.

So frustrating any reason this happens?

OS Version, version of program, 32 or 64 bit?

Hello - in this example I am using Windows 8 (64-bit), 64-bit version of ZBrush.

I’ll assume you’re working with the most up to date version of the program (4r7p3). It’s worth remembering that the 64 bit version of Zbrush is still officially Beta software. If you find you can reproduce your issue reliably, you should submit the reproducible crash to Support.

In the meantime, if you want maximum compatibility, perhaps you should limit yourself to the official 32 bit version of the program. If the issue persists, there’s probably an issue with the program and your system configuration, and you’ll have to contact support for troubleshooting.

It goes without saying that in any graphics software you should always save frequently, in iterative files.
