ZBrush GREAT for insects

Hi all,

Here’s a sculpt of a southern wood ant (Formica rufa). Without the new fibermesh function this project would have taken a lot more time - ants at this magnification have a LOT of body hair! However, the high-res texture saved me a lot of extra work.

Any critiques are most welcomed and appreciated.

Top row for sure!!! Amazing work:+1:

One thing that bothers me is it’s eyes… IMHO they should be bigger and not that convex.

What engine did u use for render?

Cheers,
Svyat

Lovely piece of work, for some reason it reminds me of the ant in ‘Honey I shrunk the kids!’
The detailing and small hairs on his legs look really nice, and I like the reflective shine on his gaster.

beautiful work, I like:+1:

This is really great work! Please can we see the un-coloured version?

wow, that is soooo well done. excellent work Raaden. Kudos.

Nice “Rödmyra” This looks superb, great work all over !:+1:

very nice:)

Right on the money! Well done.

very cool to the see the ant so upclose, you nailed the hairs on the legs, rendered in ZB?

Thanks all! The ant is rendered in Keyshot since I find the settings in ZBrush a bit tedious to set up. Also, I find it difficult to get the exact results I’m looking for. Here is what the mesh looks like without textures. Svyat: true, it is a bit bug-eyed  so I remodelled the eyes and used the new noisemaker plugin for the surface - works like a charm. As for their size, they really are this small.

…just awesome!!!

Insects seen this close are always a bit scary, but also beautiful. Especially when they are on your computer screen and not real

Anyways, really great job there!

Previous sculpt with added background and gravel road.
