zbrush freezes/then closes upon mouse click

So I’m working on my zbrush project file, everything is fine for the last couple of hours, then zbrush freezes, mouse pointer turns into a loading icon, and zbrush disappears as soon as I click on the window. Now, normally this would be alright since I have quick save on, but it has happened +30 times in just the last hour and I’m not sure what the problem is. I’ve tried optimizing the mesh/check/mesh integrity/fix mesh, but it’s still crashing. This has happened before with my other projects, so it’s not an isolated issue.

spec:

xeon 2.8
12 gb
geforce gtx 550 ti
windows 7 64bit

Anything I can try to get rid of this problem? thx

how much scratch disk space does Z have? How fast is the drive that it is writing to? What are you mem settings at?

Which version of ZBrush are you using?
Also, does it happen randomly or is it on a specific action?
Does it also happen when you are trying to save?

Please, try to provide more information, just it crashes on click isn’t enough to find a solution

I’m using the latest zbrush, 4r5. The harddrive has more than a terabyte of space. I’m not sure what the speed of the harddrive is, but it’s pretty new. Memory is set on 3k

It happens randomly, and like I said before, when it does happen, it keeps happening over and over every time I open zbrush and start working. I have had a few crashes happen when saving, but mostly it’s when I’m modeling, nothing specific.

the crash is not a normal crash where zbrush saves and exits. It’s more like zbrush just disappears.

bump. Started happening again.
