zbrush for osx performance question

Hello:

So, in the end I bought zbrush 4R6 for Mac. I have an early 17" MBP 2011 with 16gb and SSD. I noticed that whenever I start zbrush, in a few seconds the fan goes nuts (I can see the cpu activity spiking with Activity monitor), which doesn’t happen with other 3D software I have: sketchup, modo, blender and 3d coat trial. I also have to mention that I am running a Desktop Parallels windows 7 VM at the same time.

Is it normal? I am going to run it without the VM as well, but I am just very curious to see if others have seen this.

Thanks

No, not normal. Others have posted as well, also Mac users. Solution may be to reduce number of cores used, don’t remember. You can find one thread here http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?181692-Is-zBrush-compatible-with-OSX-Mavericks&p=1055528#post1055528

Thanks. I also found this one: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?181562-Mac-working-far-too-hard&highlight=osx+performance

I set the # of steps to 8 and 1 thread and it doesn’t do it anymore. I will look later at increasing the priority…

One more question though, how do I persist this setting? Even though I used Preferences ->Config->Store Config, the application reverts MaxThreads to 8 and Multithreaded Steps to Auto upon restart.

Thanks
