Zbrush for Architecture

I import a low poly mesh obj tool into Zbrush, but when i subdivide it just adds more faces. How do i add detail without changing the subdivision? It appears that when its on the first subdivision nothing changes. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

first u do one thing, wat ever the 3d software u use split the low poly edges ok then when u bring u r mesh in zbrush it will hold the depth of u r shape k

I dont know how to split the geometry, im using maya 2009 any suggestions?

If I understand what you are trying to do… bad news

You can’t

What you are asking to do is like having a 1x1 px bitmap and add detail to it…

The power of zbrush is it’s capacity to work with millions of polygons to make details…

In the documentation is the workflow to take textures and normal maps from the hires model to the 1 polygon version

Under the geometry menu in ZBrush there is a highlighted button that says “smt,” if you uncheck that and then subdivide, it will keep your geometry looking like it does in the low poly (but it will be adding faces that you can sculpt on).

You could also look into how to use the crease tool in ZBrush, or just put in ‘holding edges’ on your low poly in whatever 3d app you use.
