ZBrush, Elsa board and lights

Hello All,

I’m planning to purchase Elsa SYNERGY 2000

My question is:

Elsa says this board has capable hardware acceleration of up to 8 light sources.

So, can I take advantage of it while using ZBrush?

From what I understand, ZBrush doesn’t really use 3d hardware acceleration, so a hardware accelarator won’t make much of a difference in terms of ZBrush usage.

When I first started with ZBrush, I was just using an old SVGA 2d graphics card.

I believe that Winged One is right about the acceleration. For that matter, most 3D graphics programs use software acceleration rather than hardware acceleration when doing the renders (even Maya, unless you override the default setting).

3D Acceleration is required for most games today. The better the card, the better your game performance and the more vibrant the picture will be. But for actually creating 3D art, it’s usually the program software that does the job.

WingedOne, aurick thank you so much for help

I was reading your posts for a while and it’s great to talk to you…

I’ve a question in my mind… Zbrush does not take advantage of directX 7 or 8 right?

No, mainly for platform portability, I guess. Less headaches creating both a Macintosh and PC version of ZBrush, as well as any other systems ZBrush might be developed for further down the road.
