Zbrush Displacement issue - Not capturing detail (Smoothes map)

Hi i am having a slight issue i have tried to fix my self for few days now with trial and error with no solution and would be grateful with someones insight.

the problem is - iam trying to export a displacement map (settings Attached) but it is smoothing out my details for some reason.

the closest i have got to fixing this is by raising the subdivision by 1 and deleting lower then re exporting a displacement map, but this shouldn’t be the case as ive seen many tutorials of people exporting their displacement map perfectly from subd1

every time i raise the subdivision and delete lower the map seems more detailed (imaged attached)

ive tried morph target, playing with the dsubpix settings, playing with the mid settings, tried on different computers, different zbrush’s, exporting textures and normals first, exporting out of the right panel menu, trying exporting off older models

any idea on whats going on ?

You’ll want to look at the .exr that is being produced. Typically fine details at in a 32bit exr aren’t visible unless you adjust the values inside of photoshop. All of your detail is there most likely, you just can’t see it with the naked eye.

Thank you for the reply

I really hope that would of been the case but i really don’t think it is as rendering in vray with the displacements isn’t as detailed as my Zsculpt.

also ive tried adjusting values in Photoshop for some pores to show but nothing.

i think the subd2 and 3 maps is more like a map i should be getting ,

but i want to know the root of the problem before i implement that in my pipeline and always having to have high poly meshes in max/maya at render time

Try turning off “Adaptive”.

I agree with zber. Turn off adaptive. Leave 32 bit on.

Nope doesnt fix it :frowning: this is such a mystery

Have you seen ACCURATE DISPLACEMENT WORKFLOW tutorial by Akin Bilgic? Maybe it will help if you haven’t. He uses Multi Map Exporter plugin and his settings are at the bottom of that page.
