Zbrush destroyed my ZTL file! wtf!

Now…I know backup is a good thing and let’s just say I was about to.

Anyways I wanted to save my file and Zbrush came up with some memory error issue and tries to create a recovery for some reason…and the result is my ZTL file with ALL MY WORK is now destroyed, ****ing gone!

Why can’t it just shut the program down and ignore my ZTL file? Why is it even touching it? I mean, fair enough, it ran out of memory - ok bummer - but f… destroying the ZTL file?

Wel it did create a recovery file - a nice useless ZBR image file of my model just before he died!!!

I’m sorry if I sound harsh but I just lost a lot of good work for no ****ing reason! ****!

Grrr!

do you mean…the same thing that happens in nearly every other program if the program crashes during a save?

I used to get corrupted files all of the time in MAX, Maya, PS, Illustrator, etc.

We all learn in due time to save often and in iterations.

Forgive my erupt anger…all the steam is out now. I havent experienced this earlier with say Zbrush 3.1…in these cases it crashed and the ZTL file was not affected. So I was just wondering why Zbrush tries to create a backup of the file if it has such a dramatic effect. I’d prefer having it doing nothing and just crash then. I thought maybe it was a bug…dunno…

The recovery feature didn’t cause the corruption. It kicked in because ZBrush knew that there was going to be a crash which would result in the model being corrupted. So the recovery feature tried to create a salvageable version.

Yeah it did - my mistake.

Still have the ZTL file but obviously can’t access it…o wel, they say the second time you do stuff it usually gets better :sunglasses:

Thanks for inputs :+1:

A good tip any time you’re working with a high-end app is to save multiple versions of your work. I personally like to use three versions. That way, if one gets corrupted somehow you can return to the last version and not lose everything you’ve done.

The more system-intensive what you’re doing is, the more room there is for the computer to do something… odd. That holds true with every application out there.

Hehe aye - agreed.

So, anyways, I managed to redo some of the stuff today 6 hours straight with ginseng and ultra black coffee. I’ll keep the multiple savings in mind for future ref :sunglasses:

Thanks :+1:
