zbrush crashes when using masks....

Often when I’m using masks zbrush will crash. It seems to happen mostly on one particular ztool.

Im using an AMD 4600+ Dual core system with 4 gigs of ram and an ATI Radeon X1600.

This happens in my windows xp x86 install, and I tried installing windows 7 x64 in which zbrush is more stable. However it still happens from time to time.

Let me know if theres any more specs I should provide.

Thanks in advance.

Is the base mesh from outside zbrush? I have found that if you delete your first sub division (save a new save first of course) and then reconstruct it (save a new save). It works fine for me that way, I make my base meshes mostly in modo now. I had that problem for a while. but not anymore.

Yea I made the base mesh in 3dsmax. I don’t quite follow the workflow…

Do you mean, import my base mesh, subdivide it once, then delete the lower? then save it out? then sculpt into that?

thanks for the help

i’ve had this happen, only when i have part of the mesh hidden and i’m using transpose masking, not normal painting or dragrec/lasso masking.

spaceboy412 gave me this procedure to fix issues with imported meshes.
(I think it came from marcus civis originally) I now do this every time I
import an OBJ.

  1. Turn off Tool:Geometry:Smt and then press Tool:Geometry: Divide once.

  2. Press Tool:Geometry: Del Lower.

  3. Press Tool:Texture:Enable UV (if not enabled already) and then press
    Tool:Geometry:Reconstruct Subdiv.

  4. At the lower subdiv level press Tool:Geometry: Del Higher. As any polygroups will have been lost you may wish to press Tool:Polygroups:Group Visible.

At this point you should be back to your original mesh. These steps seem
to preserve imported UVs OK, and it seems to avoid some problems with
edge-looping and creasing, maybe also the mask crash?
