Hi, I’m using Zbrush 3.2 on an 8-core Mac Pro os x 10.6.2 with 8gbs of RAM. The model was at 15m pixels and i had just completed a quick polypaint and thought i’d better save it. I always save incrementely, i.e job stage1, job stage2, etc. But on this occasion i kept working on stage2 for a couple of hours, whilst saving every ten minutes or so. When i did my last ‘Save tool’, my mac hung up for a moment then i got a RAM error message and before Zbrush ‘unexpectedly quit’ i got a message with a code saying to email pixologic.
So i thought i’d try and reopen the Ztool i’d been working on to see how much work i’d lost but it refuses to open and Zbrush now freezes when trying to open it. Other jobs are fine and Zbrush works normally.
To my point…
is the Ztool i’d been working on a goner, dead, kaput? Or does anyone know of a trick to get the sucker to open up again?
I’d done some pretty nice work with skin folds/weighting that will be very difficult to redo so i’d appreciate being able to get this one back. Is it worthwhile to email the code to pixologic or will it just be to help them with future software bugs, which is worthwhile - but wont help me with my lost Ztool. Thanks for reading and any info you might be to give me.
Cheers!
Unfortunately, once a model has become corrupted there is no way to recover it. The work you’ve done since your previous version is lost.
I recommend always saving with a different version during a session. So maybe I’ll save three times in one session, creating a total of three files. Then in my next session if I save four times I’ll overwrite the first three and create a fourth.
Hi Aurick, thanks for your reply, even though it’s not what i wanted to hear
Ok, back to it then, i’ll just have to take what i learned and do it even better this time, while saving as you have recommended. Thanks again.
