ZBrush Constantly crashing when connected to network :(

I cant figure this one out. After Re-activating my zbrush (I opened up a UI from a previous version and it asked for activation again) Zbrush 4 r4 (as well as R2) keeps constantly crashing! I get within 10 minutes of working and then it hangs and blips off.

I cannot think why. I got IT to re-install, that hasnt fixed the issue, still crashing. I’m starting to think it could be my ztool, though I have never heard of a ztool crashing the program. Really frustrating. Has anybody come across this issue?

One thing I noticed is that if I pull my network cable out so my computer is completely dissconnected then no crash. Can anybody think of a reason why the network might have something to do with it crashing?

Bump, can anyone help out? :S

I can’t think of anything, you can try a custom interface I made. Someone made an AXIS script to swap views, this uses it but you’ll have to get the script and install it. Hope you get sorted out.

ZBrush doesn’t talk to the internet except when you are activating or deactivating.

It doesn’t talk to the local network except when you’re browsing to a network location to load or save files. The exception here would be if it has been configured to use a network location for the scratch disk (see the 4R4 PDF in your Documentation folder). That would actually be bad juju.

If that’s not the case, then the only way ZBrush would be crashing while connected to the network is if another application is fighting with ZBrush for resources. In that case I would recommend checking to see what programs are operating while networked that shut down or hibernate when you’re not networked.

Thanks guys

Doug, cheers, though I’ll probably give the custom UI a skip as I dont want to risk re-activation lol!

Aurik, I got the feeling it could be a scratch disk thing like you said. Cool, will investigate
