Zbrush books

Books need no help from me in promoting their existence.
However.
There is an author, Michael Burns, who has, over the past few
years written 3 books about the digital medium.
One has been recently published over the past few months.
What makes his books special to us is that he mentions zbrush
in all three. One of the forum’s members, Glenn Southern, has work
and tutorials in two of them.
If the ideas of the books has appeal to you, may I suggest a visit
to amazon first. The publishers won’t thank me, but you might.
To be perfectly frank, I received them for free, but that does
not diminish their value to me and, I hope to you.
The books are:

  1. Digital Sci-Fi Art. this is the most recent and features work
by Southern, as well as tutorials.
    2. femme digitale. This is basically a how to book in creating a female
in digital form. No Southern, but ZBrush is featured
  2. Digital Fantasy Painting, a book that covers the works, the how to’s.
and all the basic software. Mr. Southern is in this one with a fantastic
    tutorial on zbrush.
I do not recommend books to anyone, and particularly in this
    medium, for lack of knowledge.
    These are exceptions.
    Thank you for your interest.

I buyed recently "The Art of 3D Computer Animation and Effects " from Isaac Kerlow from Amazon.Com i suggest to this special list friend¡

hiya bicc!

I hope you got my answer to the preview mode thing.

And great thanks for the heads up on these books!!

May I recommend one to you as well? I know I have mentioned it here a couple times but it is worthy of mention numerous times…and it also mentions zbrush.

Building a Digital Human by none other than Ken Brilliant.

it is a really great book that is/tries to be platform independent and zbrush gets some great plugs…and most of the modelling aspects can and do apply to zbrush…yeah with some edge looping exceptions but it’s worth a read thru for anyone into 3d modelling!!!

I recently receive my Ken Brilliant “Building a Digital Human” fom Charles Riveside Media,2003. Is an excelent book with a reference cd very complete.

Had purchased, Building a Digital Human by Ken Brilliant,a few months ago.
I bought it because I had seen it mentioned here and also
to show support for the members.
Good book and I am glad to have obtained it.
Had a few problems that would exist for any other book of
this nature.
Mr. Brilliant works in a specific program to model his figure
In the beginning he gives a sort of translator for other programs
but the bulk of commands used are program specific.
Not throwing around names, but I have Maya 6 which is rough enough
without the translation.
But parts of that book were invaluable such as the description of the texturing work he does. This is what made his work so enjoyable to see here. And also why his tutorials here are so educational.

The books by Mr. Burns however, are crosses between art books, “coffee table books” and program tutorials. The prices ain’t bad either.

I should actually hate Mr. Burns and Mr. Southern, it was the first book
that sucked me into this.
I downloaded the demo of zbrush the day after I received the book.
I bought the program the day after I downloaded the demo.
The downward spiral has contined since.
I don’t get much better, but it is fun trying:qu:

I want those books

oops I meant to reply to this a while back and got sidetracked as usual!!

I do hope Bicc39, that you are enjoying your struggles. I feel that if somehow you could find a way to be kinder to yourself, your creative genious would just fly out and suprise you. I have the same problem when it comes to writing…that inner critic ass that keeps getting in the way…I think you and me need to kick that guy in the head and leave him in the dirt!!!

So…I will do my best to do so if you will…what do ya say?

Always trying.
Problem I have is unique and most would not say a problem
at all.
I am one of the older kids ( about 59 ), good at photography,
little bit of writing. As I mentioned that book a few years ago
started something.
I have an addictive personality, which means that anything
I like, I do or consume in abundance.
When drinking I was a drunk, when smoking it was over three
packs a day. When I eat, one ain’t enough either.
Many years ago, decided to get healthy, most people run,
I did four nyc marathons.
Cut to the chase, I am trying to learn ( or cope with) Maya 6, Vue 5,Zbrush
Poser 5 etc. The only thing I have going for me so far is that I am fairily decent at Photoshop 7 (through photography)
The books alone on all these subjects alone are diverse and time consuming.
My problem lately has been staying focused on one program to the exclusion
of all others.
I will spend a few days on one, develop a little, go to the next one, come
back and forget what I have learned.

Somewhere here there is a teenager with not a lot of money, probably the
demo version, who is spending all his waking hours on this program and this
alone.
In hours, days, weeks, he will be here kicking ass.
I envy him the struggle and wish him well on his success.
I think this is more than you wanted to know.
Incidentally, repeating what I sent you in a pm, I seriously
thank you for your help and encouragement, they have and do mean
a lot
End of sermon.

…these free books in Zoom 1/1
Pilou

Many thanks Mr. Pilou, was looking for something to do during
renders:D

Bicc…

It’s ok to wander. Wandering is the story of my life. If you knew how many hobbies I have you’d be amazed…yeah photography is one of them haha…one of my top most ones actually.

I am not as ancient as you  but not just starting out either …so believe me I can relate.

Anyway I would like to recommend some reading.

1st is Scientific American’s Mind issue…this month or this quarter…don’t have it in front of me for date…but it has an excellent article on Creativity. I liked it because it confirms a thesis I started way back in spring chicken days about creativity and madness that I never finished.

2nd is…read for sure this book…A.D.D. and Creativity by Lynn Weiss, Phd. it doesn’t matter if you are ADD or not…I think with your stated personality you will find it a very insightful and helpful book!!

I have another but can’t think of the name of it and apparently I lent it out because I can’t find it now either.
Anyway, that should help ya out some…I hope anyway.

Besides…if ya got a question I might be able to help with…poser or zb anyway…just ask…i will do what I can to help ya out!! As for writing…do it everyday…or as damn close as you can…it will help you in knowing yourself as well as opening the doors to creativity in all things.

Keep on trucking my friend!!!
