Zbrush backface selection

Hi there,

Is there a way to select, and then hide or delete faces in Zbrush? I can’t seem to find the solution on the internet. They always end up talking about “Auto masking back faces”.

Dynamesh always adds a thickness to your model and this makes it bad for sculpting on surfaces where you need only one side. Like a plane.

Thanks

http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/modeling-basics/mesh-visibility/

You have also the option to delete geometry in tools>geometry>modify topology>del hidden

There are other ways to do the same operations but these are the exact ones you was asking.

Hi.

I’m talking about “backfaces”. Faces which are facing away from the camera.

thanks

Then perhaps you need to rephrase the question. I can guess the question but not sure what you want unless another person knows better.

It seems like he wants to hide and/or delete individual faces, but I don’t know what this has to do with backfaces. Perhaps he’s talking about toggling visibility on both sides of a face?

In which, GIS3000…

You can do so by going to Tools>Display Properties and clicking on the “double” button. This will allow you to turn both sides of a face on or off, if that’s what you’re asking about.

GIS3000

Maybe try to focus the question really specifically on what the solution to your problem is rather than on how to achieve what you’re assuming the solution to your problem is.

Example: You mentioned something about dynamesh adding thickness to your mesh which is causing you some problem.
Be really specific about what’s going on and how it is affecting your workflow then maybe someone will be able to tell you the fix.

I would say that most of the times a question is not solved is because it is not possible to understand the question or because is a very personal bug that should be sent rather to support.
It usually feels odd to ask “I don’t understand you, can you repeat the question?” specially because once clarified the question perhaps you don’t know the response.

Hi,

What I meant is the faces of a model, which are facing away from the camera.

For example, in 3ds Max, I can select only the faces of a model which are facing me and ignore the faces which are facing away from me. I can then invert the selection and delete them if I want.

ScreenCapture01.jpg

In max, I simply select, using a marquee tool, with “ignore backfaces” option checked, and faces facing away from the camera will be ignored. I can invert the selection and delete.
Does Zbrush have something like this?

thanks for your time.

“Tool > Polygroups > Group Front” will group all visible polygons facing the camera.

Thanks. Seems to be the best solution for now.

regards

Try polygroup > group by normals
