Zbrush At MacWorld NYC

I was at MacWorld today and saw the new Zbrush and the sparse comments here in no way do the product justice. It is simply an incredible program!

Someone – I don’t yet know the Pixologic staff – was doing a great presentation; of particular interest to all of us were the Zspheres.

I spoke earlier with the young man who was presenting and he said – unless I misunderstood – that I could d/l 1.5 from the Pixologic site. So far, there doesn’t seem to be any way to do so. I’ll keep checking in.

My other observation was that the Pixologic booth was one of the most heavily attended at the show. The second time I stopped by the audience – glued to the monitors – was four/five deep and blocking the aisle.

My two favorite presentations were Zbrush and Carrara. Spectacular software with very exciting futures.

ZSpheres are indeed incredible.

I expect 1.5 will be available later on in the month shortly after the Pixologic staff returns from Siggraph. Glad you liked what you saw. We’re all as anxious as you are.

Wow you’re lucky… wish I coulda been there to see 1.5!

Ohhh! Check out the Mac Expo website … !
here!
Can anyone spot the Pixologic site? (I can’t) The big glass building is really impressive!

I really like the Mac these days, The OS-X is damn-fine!! I work on PC’s and Mac’s and have just moved over to the OS-X with my Final Cut Pro suites. Hat’s off to the Mac. I like it!!

How many Mac’s users are there on this forum?

Upham

Not a Mac user but i spotted the pixologic booth

Exhibitor List

Mac user here =P. But I don’t use OSX too much now, its abit too slow for my taste. But when Jaguar is out and Zbrush is native I’ll switch totally to OSX.

Its nice tho, because using it for 5 months on my other computer it has not crashed once, which is nice.

It is slightly disconcerting that, had I purchased Zbrush yesterday at MacWorld I would now have 1.5 but because I bought it a week ago – in anticipation of 1.5 – I won’t be able to get it until after Siggraph.

We are dweamiiiiing … !

I just stopped at the Exhibitor List site and it says the Pixologic booth was “upgraded”. Looks like they got moved to a bigger booth according to the floorplan.

Way To Go Pixologic! :+1:

Still hoping to be there tomorrow.

“I was at MacWorld today and saw the new Zbrush and the sparse comments here in no way do the product justice. It is simply an incredible program!”

Really?? Wow…I know we only had access to a few of the new toys in the beta and I can only imagine what improvements they have already made on them. I can’t wait to see the final version. Like everyone else I am chomping at the bit and wondering if I should finish projects I am working on or wait and use the full 1.5 to do it! Oh the agony…!!

WingedOne we expect a full report if you go to MacWorld!

I am a very new user of Zbrush so maybe 1.2 will do this but yesterday I saw two “wow” functions in 1.5: Zspheres (which I know is a brand new function) and paint-to-object (not sure what its official name is).

Zspheres is, indeed, spectacular. With a few clicks and a few “stretching deformations” the person demoing the software produced a dancer – arm up, legs out in graceful flight. Each of the spheres (I am reading from the Zspheres Quickguide which was handed out to the crowd) acts like a “joint” in a human body. It is called a Linked Move. There are also Constrained Rotate, Linked Inflate and Deflate and Resize. As I said, it was pretty spectacular.

The other wow function was one where the person demoing drew a sort of happy face (random drawings) and then converted it into a 3D object which can be deformed, textured, exported, etc. I can think of all kinds of uses for this one.

I didn’t spend too much time on the interface though I did note to a friend that it seemed more “open” or less cluttered. I think it is because there are more spaces between the pallets.

Arrrggghhh!! I can’t comment on those mentioned features…Nope not at all… Sounds like you got a real good showing of it. I am wondering if that was Jaime or Davey doing the demonstration? I don’t know what any of them look like. Heck it could have been Ofer for all I know.

I was there as well and the new features look incredible! I believe Ofer was doing the demo. The “alpha skinning” is where you paint with the brush and then convert it into a 3d object. As mentioned above the booth was PACKED! Everyone seemed to be in awe. The zshpere alone is worth the price of admission. I’m sure no one will be disappointed in this release.

I am fortunate enought to live in Houston, and I am able to attend Siggraph. I really can’t wait until the 25th, and all of this talk is just making me more anxious! I may have to force myself to just not look at the forum for a week. Naw!!

Holy **** . :grimacing:

I read haphazard’s post and dropped my Wacom. :grimacing:

HEREZ A BIG HINT :small_orange_diamond::

How about putting a PDF of the Zsphere QuickGuide online? hmmmmmmmmmm

Just a crumb from the table…please!

Eager Mac user here as well. ZBrush is one of only 2 programs that I use regularly that makes me use “Classic” mode. It mostly plays nice with that mode, too, although occasionally i get weird redraw problems.

Even if I still have to wait a bit longer for ZBrush 1.5 under OS X, boy oh boy, do I want the 1.5 upgrade NOW based on all the good things I am hearing.

I was supposed to be at both MacWorld and SIGGRAPH this year and then I had to cancel going at the last minute when my work-reason for going disappeared. Boo hoo hoo! So close, yet so far away!

But since there is only one day between MacWorld and SIGGRAPH, I can certainly understand everyone at Pixologic being a bit busy to update the site. (sends subliminal message to Pixologic staff to do an upload… DO AN UPLOAD…)

I strongly second Kathy’s suggestion of putting that guide online!!!

Also, I found this on the Pixologic site from Macworld 2001: Back when it was ZBrush 1.1

I’m sure that there will be more info on the ZSphere provided after MacWorld while they catch their breaths before Siggraph. I know that Ofer wants to personally introduce the ZSphere here at ZBC.

Mac user here. Not only am I drooling in anticipation, I’m also ready to come out of hibernation with a couple of ideas, using version 1.5, of course.

thanks for the update!
