ZBrush 64bit on OSX Leopard

I couldn’t find much informations on this, but my question is if ZB 3.2 is running at 64 bit on Mac OSX Leopard.

I ask this because I have the latest Mac Pro 8GB and using a Ztool with about 20million of activepoints it often complains (and crash) saying that system memory is not sufficient to complete requested operation (I guess you all have seen that message at least once).

I made some further “investigations” using some memory diag tools and the activity monitor, and I noticed that ZB never uses more than 3GB of RAM.

So, even when it complains that there is no system memory available, well, there are still about 4GB free !

Good question. Went on your site, cool stuff. :+1:

ZBrush is currently a 32-bit application. We’re all keeping our fingers crossed that v4 will be 64-bit.

Thank you very much Sleet: and I’d have so many stuff I did lately to upload to my blog, and yet not much time to do also that

About my question: IMO producing a 64bit version should be one of top priorities, ZB should run faster, more stable and use all the system memory allowing to manage even more complex and detailed meshes. Right now, without using HD geometry, I found out that the limit is about 20 millions polygons: at that complexity level, ZB is very often compacting mem, hickup and crashing.

However, what I suppose stops developers to make ZB 64bit at this time, is the Windows 7 specs. I’ve been reading those and it seems that the new Microsoft OS will still be 32bit: well, probably they will release also the 64bit version as they did with XP, but still I consider all this a mess, for both customers and software companies that have to develop more versions of the same product. So afterall it’s all a MS fault !

any word on a 64bit osx build of ZB? I’ve got many(many) gigs of available memory waiting to be “blessed” by the great Zbrush
