Zproject brush currently does not appear to be transferring color as intended. It still functions for displacement.
For painting color from a 2d backdrop or texture like you’re doing there, Spotlight (Select texture>Texture Palette>Add to Spotlight) largely replaces Zproject, as it is a much more powerful tool for that.

For Projecting color in 3 dimensions from another 3d model, use the ProjectALL feature in the Subtool menu with MRGB pressed on the top shelf.
