ZBrush 4R2 works in Wine / Linux

For those who wonder if they should upgrade their Linux installations, my ZBrush 4.0 install upgraded to 4R2 just fine. Activation worked. Sculpting, ZSpheres etc. work. Tried even dynamesh, no problems.

Of course, Pixologic can’t support this kind of use, but if you need this kind of set-up, it’s definitely possible…

I have Ubuntu 11.04 and Wine 1.3.28. nVidia drivers.

I got it working in Wine 1.2.2 and 1.2.3. I tried using 1.3 on Ubuntu using the latest development PPA but Zbrush wouldn’t fully load and I’d have to “Force Quit” out of it. Once running, it worked well, but I had one oddity with dialogs not being visible if the main window was full screen but they worked fine if I restored the window to non-fullscreen.

idragosani, may be a X server problem, I’m using nVidia’s propietary 270.41.19 drivers, they are working quite well with Wine. I’m also using Gnome 2, not Unity.

Does pen pressure work in ZBrush under wine? (wacom tablet)

I’m using the same drivers and UI. Not a big deal, I can work around it.

I get some warnings at startup about some of the scripts, too, but everything works correctly regardless. Have you tried installing any of the plugins?

I will be first in line to buy a native Linux version if it is ever made!

TIM-TIM –

As far as I can tell pen pressure works under Wine. I haven’t really tested extensively yet with ZBrush, but it definitely works with Sculptris

You are right! ZB really works under wine and tablet pen too (I tried in both Ubuntu and Fedora). Just one thing is bad - no icons for ZB projects (ZPR) in LightBox, but you still can open them by double click on their “empty” placeholders.
