zBrush 4r2, Noisemaker completely broken

Hey there guys.

I’ve been doing forum searches and google searches for an hour now, and can only find threads that are no longer available, and only in google’s cache, about this problem.

I’ve even completely uninstalled and reinstalled zBrush, DON’T have a pirated version, and just don’t get it.

Every time I go to turn on “Noise” under the surface tab, I get an immediate crash in ZBrush.

I’m running Windows 7 Pro, 64Bit, and it definitely used to work just fine.

It doesn’t matter what tool I’m using either - It doesn’t care, just crashes every time.

I REALLY WOULD like to use noisemaker =(

Anyone else come across this problem before? And if so, have a solution?

I don’t know what your problem is. I don’t have a problem using noise maker. I would submit a support ticket and see what they have to say.

Yeah, I submitted a ticket just now.

I find it strange that I seem to be the only one with this problem?

It is particularly a problem for me as an Environment Artist, because the noisemaker tool is VERY useful!

i blame unicorns.

I find it hard to believe no-one is experiencing a similar crash as I am with the noisemaker tool?

Problem fixed.

Solution: After uninstalling zbrush, do not leave any remnants of it in your Program Files folder. Delete the entire pixologic folder from your program files, then re-install.

I’ve just installed R3 on my Mac and it too crashes immediately when I click on the plug in button.
It’s a two month old i7 iMac - 27inch and it runs Zbrush very well. I’ve had no problems with 3 different versions of zbrush until now.
I cannot find anything about this on any Pixologic sites, or the web, and I’m just about to submit a support ticket. I’ll post my progress, soon hopefully!

Bomjak - Did you try what I mentioned as the solution?

See the last part of Pixolator’s post here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?166716-ZBrush-4R3-It-s-Here!&p=934681&viewfull=1#post934681

I’ll try that tonight - still no reply from Pixologic, although it was very late last night (UK time) when I submitted a support ticket.

I’m unsure of the procedure for reinstalling though…

Do I remove the folder from Applications (I’m on a Mac) and then install Zbrush 4, then the R3 updater or do I have to install all the updates in sequence? i.e. V4, then V4R2, then V4R2b and finally R3!

For example, Pixologics website says:
‘The ZBrush 4R3 Updater requires version 4R2 or 4R2b to already be installed on your computer.’
However, if I remove zbrush entirely, I can’t install R3 without 4R2 or 4R2b already installed and as they are only updaters, I will have to install the original Zbrush 4 application!

Thanks for your help,

I got a (speedy) reply regarding the bug with Noisemaker:

“There are known issues with Noisemaker. Our development team is currently working on an update to correct it.”

I asked about reinstalling but they said nothing on that issue. :frowning:
I’m still unsure about reinstalling (i.e. I don’t know how) and how to keep my custom UI and brushes libraries.
Hopefully the update will be worth the wait.
