Zbrush 4 Native 64 bit Version..?

Can we expect Zbrush 4 to a Native windows 64 bit Version…? i have 12 gb ram (ec registered)… still my pc slows down with 30 million polys… :frowning:
I am Using windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Edition…

you won’t hear anything from the Dev team on this…but chances are it will be. I can’t see pixologic not doing this (it would probably be a fatal flaw). I have 24gb of RAM sitting at my office and Z only gets to use 4 :(.

As to the 30million polygons…what are you working on that needs 30 million polygons!?!

character texturing for production
in the z4 preview movie they are saying that we can sculpt paint on billions of poly… hope its native 64 bit

Support should respond about this.Support should respond about this.Support should respond about this.Support should respond about this. :cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:

Absolutely support should make a statement and it should do this now so that some of us can plan into the future. There are other workflows that we can follow and just for SUPPORT’s information that would mean 12 ZBrush purchases if it is 64 bit.
About time Pixologic became responsible to its end users and make a definitive statement about the future of ZB!~!!!

DO IT NOW !!!

lets hope it is 64-bit.

i would also like the option to stop zbrush from writing to hard disk. whats the point in having all this RAM if i have to wait for it to write temp files to disk. one day when SDD is cheaper and actually alot alot faster than hardrives i’m planning to have 2 SSD drives in Raid 0 (once they sort out the problems people are having with Raid) but when 8gb-12gb is pretty much standard i would love a force only use Ram mode.

Still no answer from Support :frowning: this is insane…

yeah … future of z4 plss…

you won’t get an answer until there is an official press release of zbrush 4, just have to wait and see

I hope people rate this theard more and createe some pressure on this issue to zbrush developers… the next generation is like 128 bit…when zbrush … upgrades… its a big draw ack zbrush still 32 bit :frowning:

128-bit is such a long way off, i mean a really really long way off so don’t even think about that.

do you think it is too long ??? ha ha lol… image over cg world just two or few years back … Development is rapidly growing brother…

really its a long way off from being mainstream, theres just no need for it either except for maybe some special government/military projects. i’m sure intel/amd etc are developing but its no were near being in your local pc shop

I have only 4GB of RAM, so 64-bit version not bothering me right now.
Anyway, why don’t you try using RamDisk ? It’s very useful if you have “excess” of RAM. Look e.g. here: http://www.pp.tc/tip_4gb_limitBreak.htm

Thank you very much Boruta
stuck here

[size=+2]Move build-in specified cache directory (Zbrush)
Program use folder inside main folder of application, for example Zbrush.
One very usefull function on NTFS file system - is link one folder to another folder.
Dont know why, but its not integrate in windows…
Use this small program Sysinternals NTFS Junction

Run from command line: junction.exe C:\Work\Zbrush\vmem R:\TEMP

can not make this step… can you tell me the command line for
C:\Program Files (x86)\Pixologic\ZBrush 3.5 R3\vmem Z:\TEMP

That’s actually pretty normal, especially if you’re working in the game industry. I think pretty much every character I work on these days rises at least above 20m. It’s also not just the amount of polygons but the speed that you’re able to work with it. Zbrush still seems to struggle with memory as soon as it reaches even 2m. I love the program, but that’s one thing that mudbox still seems to outperform Zbrush in.

I think it should be: junction.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Pixologic\ZBrush 3.5 R3\vmem Z:\TEMP

junction.exe did not worked for me…

this is what i did
Use “linkd.exe” instead , it’s more simple. “linkd.exe” is a Microsoft recource kit tool and links an empty folder on an NTFS formatted hard disk to something else.

Example :

“Temp” is an emtpy folder on drive C: ( Drive C: is formatted to NTFS ) and you want that all files written to C:\Temp will be mapped to the ramdisk B: , then enter :

>Linkd.exe C: emp Z:

Done !

Linkd.exe “C:\Program Files (x86)\Pixologic\ZBrush 3.5 R3\vmem” Z:

There’s more people out there.
Let’s make this thread sticky ! :stuck_out_tongue:

all this process could not speed up zbrush…

one thing to be happy is now… Photoshop cs4 is running super fast… :stuck_out_tongue:
