ZBrush 4 is 32-bit.

I know there are a lot of people that have been asking wether or not z4 is 32 or 64 bits…

Well, I dont know if Pixo guys have made an official comment about this, but look what I just found:

I found this while reading the included documentation of z4. If only people would get in the habit of reading the manual…

AloT of people myself included asked this question before receiving a download link. So we/they didn’t/don’t have the documentation yet.

“…can use up to 4 GB of system RAM when run under a 64-bit OS.”

That says it cannot use more than 4 gigs. I would be surprised if that is true. So zbrush can’t make use of 16gb memory?

Only with decimation master can it use more than 4gb. Zbrush otherwise is 64 bit compatible but not a 64 bit program, meaning it is 32 bit and can only use 4gb (I think the actual number is 3 and 1/2), but will work fine with a 64 bit operating system.

Yes it is 32 bit. Ctrl + Alt + Delete and you will see “Zbrush.exe*32” on the process list.
Personally I cared more about sculpting speed increase and got my wish granted with the awesome improvements to lazymouse performance. I think now I will have it always on.

Yup thanks for clearing that up!

I won’t leg it out and purchase more RAM just yet then.

It’s true, zbrush can’t use anything above 4gigs of RAM. It’s why there is so much fuzz about 64bit applications… Imagine how much more millions of polygons you could give your models if you could use all of those extra gigs?
Im sure making zbrush 64bit is probably what next in pixologic’s to-do list. I mean, they already did decimation master.
