Zbrush 4 export big file problems!

I have Core i7 with 12gb ram, W7 64bit… I wanna export 14mil polygons mesh as obj. It gives me errors like this:

Sorry, this action could not be completed… …due to insufficient amount of system memory (RAM)
…memory is a result of editing a 3d mesh with higher polygon count than system is capable of handling.
…increase the amount of available memory.

ok… my compact memory is set to 4096 (max). I dont know why i cant go higher, does it tell it cant use more than 4gb?? Thats why I have this error? or the zbrush core is still 32bit…?

I dont believe that I should buy 32gb of ram because of Zbrush… I guess it would give me same error… there is something wrong.

Other thing, I dont want Zbrush to calculate anything, I want him just write on disk big .obj file. Why he needs memory for this action???

any solution? thanks for answer.

Yes, ZBrush is still a 32 bit app and even on a 64 bit OS can only use 4GB RAM.

Is ZBrush the only app you have running when you try to export? Did you try Preferences > Init ZBrush > Load tool > Export? Did you try Decimation Master to reduce your poly count before exporting?

These might be things to try.

Ok, so my workaround is this.
When merge the subtools, save it and then exit ZB.
A simple restart of ZB works for me, sometimes i restart the fakin PC even…
So, then load your merged file and export it… you should have no problems!
I found that ZB tend to run out of memory when you perform such operations on heavy meshes, files etc.
It need to clear the memory or something, so restart will do.

Yesterday i exported 11 mil merged obj like this, 2.2gb OBJ files size… and my machine is way too weaker than yours!

Q6600, 4gb ram…

I have a Q to Zber. Does this mean that there is no point of having 8gb system memory, or more ? ZB only uses 4 ???

No, having more doesn’t hurt. If you have a 64 bit OS it will definately be better for running ZBrush because your OS will use lots of RAM. If you only have a 32 bit OS then anything over 4gb is a waste.

Jesus, this is such a BS…
Now that i think of the potential that ZB have if it becomes 64bits…

yes, I tried decimation master to 50% (7.7mil polygons) , it pre-calculated well, but during reduction process gave me same error. I have 6 objects in subtool for my model, but I am trying to reduce only one of them. Other ones are set to off. I tried jump out and back in to Zbrush, no help. Task Manager shows me I have 9.7gb of free ram when I loaded Zbrush.

Guys… its almost year 2011 and Zbrush 4 is out, and it still cant handle high poly export and doesnt have 64bit core… what the heck!

P.S. Pimeto: I will delete all subtools, and use only one I wanna export. Let you know If it works.

Thanks guys… and hopefully Pixologic will fix this soon.

ok…this worked “sort of”.

I have deleted all subtool, instead of one I wanted to export. I use decimation master and reduced it to 50%. Now its done, I have 7.7mil poly mesh out.

BUT

in the close future and for more complicated models I would need full count of polygons to get the best result. Its still needs to be fixed.

Man, it works. Just do some tests!
You dont need to decimate the model, because the polypaint is gone after…
So, when merging with Subtool master - select to delete the other subtools. Then save the merged tool to a new file (for backup purposes), then restart ZB and export the OBJ with polypaint. It works, ZB might stop responding or crash sometimes, but if you leave it alone to export it, whitout switching to other app, during the export - it will do it. Zb is very stable program.
