really impressed with the new render engine so far, i think i’ll spend half a day just rendering stuff and testing out the options.

The cutting tools are awesome too, sometimes the results still need a bit of cleanup , but it gets 90% of the job done.

The claybuildup brush will indeed be a community favorite.

Those are just so “youdontneed3dmaxnow”, and the renderer looks really good too. I cant wait to get my fingers on it. I was looking forward to animation and layered texturing, but this… OMG :smiley:

Hey guys, am I blind or did they not include the custom shadowbox texture? The grid that shows back, right and bottom. I’m not seeing it anywhere.

where is the right place to post questions or problems with Zbrush 4?

I am wondering how to stop the axis from automatically flipping when I Goz. I deselect them and save the set up in prefs, then the moment I press Goz they are selected as flipped again. I there a way of stopping this?

Also how come multi thread test results are worse in the Zb4 than Zb3 (1.3/0.9)?

Of course Maya also flips on export to Z via GoZ. So no point in me stopping the flipping on export from Z using GoZ. Its just a silly issue I have as many of my model sets are upside down in Z as they are imported from Max as obj’s but never flipped. So when I work with them and then GoZ them to Maya then they load upside down. So…

Whats the easiest way to flip a ztl with many subtools within Zbrush? so that I can correct my old models sets, then work with the Goz pipline?

Was wondering with the new rendering capabilities of 4 if it will import an obj with it’s texture maps? Was wondering if I could use it this way to convert a Lightwave file over to a Maya file since Z can save as Maya.

Any suggestions would be great.

To a small minority, perhaps. I find those who complain the most tend to also be the ones least willing to learn and adapt, stuck in their rigid ways, wishing the world catered to their views of how things should be. When one has access to not ony a forum full of friendly artists, but also the manual, wiki (zbrush.info), and inevitable plethora of how-to videos, finding excuses as to why ones own failings is all Pixologics fault quickly becomes silly. I’m not trying to be harsh or rude, simply truthful.

This is where masking comes in, as well as an understanding of how the new clip brushes work. It will always cut everything in the direction the fade is pointing. Starting your line from the top and working downwards will clip everything to the right of your line, while working upwards from your starting point will remove everything to the left. If starting on the left and drawing your line towards the right, everything above your line will cut. Right to left will cut everything below the line. Simple, yes?

Did you seriously just refer to Shadow Box and Clip Brushes as gimmicks? As an artist raised on traditional modelling tools (3ds Max), I can unequivocally state that the answer is yes as to the frequency I will use these tools. Zbrush has always been very good for organic modelling, and now thanks to not only these new tools, but also some of the other new brushes released in previous versions (such as the planar tools), Zbrush is now more than capable of doing thoroughly excellent hard surface modeling with minimum effort. The question isn’t whether I will use these tools, it is whether I’ll need to continue using 3ds Max lol. :slight_smile:

That isn’t the impression I’ve been left with from watching videos of GoZ in use with Max and Maya. Perhaps each app has a different level of support, which actually makes sense given the different SDK’s and amount of effort that may have been put into each. It will be interesting to see once I finally get a chance to play around with it. This is one of the new features I’m extra excited about. If nothing else, quicker is good too (time is money as the saying goes).

Preferences > Importexport > use the options here for default flipping of imported and exported items. these probably apply to GoZ as well

Finally downloaded the entire thing, authorized it, and it works great. Weird thing, my ZB 3.5 r3 has stopped working. Getting weird errors and can’t uninstall it either. Oh well, full steam ahead I guess with 4.

Just took my first Sculptris high res object, and a newly retopologized low rez version and did the “project all” feature on it. Works really really nicely! What a great tool this is!!! Only hope someone will develop a nicer retopologize tool for Zbrush. Ah, I guess I’m just whining. It’s pretty cool, actually. Well, I guess we have WrapIt in Max now as well. With these new tools, I have completely changed the way I model. High res Sculptris, retopo in Max or Zbrush, and finish off and pull maps back in Zbrush. (or Max, depending on how the new Zbrush tools work)

I initially had that problem (MAC OSX) and resolved it by modifying my permissions. But now I can’t send anything back and forth. C4D is just freezing up and I have to ‘force quit’.

My email message was waiting for me this morning… as of 00:44am
So, I downloaded software and completed install. The servers were tied up when I attempted to activate. An hour later and every thing was fine. All in all, everything has gone pretty smooth with this upgrade. Thank you Pixologic.

So… any reason for me to keep all of my previous versions??? I go all the way back to ZB v2 … LOL
