ZBrush 3 requirements?

Hi all!
I´m thinking of upgrading my pc a bit and i was wondering if anybody
know how far i need to go.
Since Z3 is supposed to handle billion poly meshes i of course would like
to take advantage of that.

Any suggestions?

System requirements will be made available at time of launch.

If you can’t wait until then, here’s info that will help (and holds true for Z2 as well):

  1. More RAM. The more you have and the faster it is, the easier you’ll be able to work with large meshes. Remember that only 64-bit versions of Windows can give more than 2 GB of RAM to any program. So if you’re going to go with more than 2 GB you need XP x64 or a 64-bit version of Vista.

  2. Faster CPU(s). The faster it is, the more smoothly it will interact with your mesh while editing.

  3. Faster hard drive. As your models get larger, ZBrush needs to write more data to disk. The faster your drive is, the more quickly it can do this.

Hi,
The videocard dont have a role to play in this ?

Surprisingly no. ZBrush really doesn’t use it much.

That´s exactly what i needed to hear. Thank´s!

So, i will be upgrading to a dual core with 4 gigs of ram. Think that will do it?

Based on the hints that the beta testers have dropped it sounds like it will do just fine.

4 gigs is only really usable on Windows Vista, or xp 64. Because of the memory management scheme, only 2 gigs is ever available for apps to use.

But Z3 will be SICK on a 64 bit os.

Makes we want to get a quad core chip, with a raid disk and 8 gigs of ram…

Actually, the 4 GB are only useable by x64 and 64-bit versions of Vista. Only Vista Ultimate ships with the 64-bit version on the disk. All other versions of Vista are 32-bit unless you then order a special disk from Microsoft (which is free, except for shipping and handling). You then have to install from that disk rather than the one that was in the box when you bought Vista.

32-bit operating systems can have up to 4 GB of RAM installed in the system, but as Crusoe has stated they will only make 2 GB available to any given application. Any extra RAM is reserved for the OS and other apps.

Hope that clears the air a bit.
