ZBrush 3 Mac Version in...Days? Weeks? Months?

Can you guys give us Mac users an idea of how much longer we are looking at before we can expect to see the Mac version of ZB3? Is it going to be Days? Weeks? Months?

I need to make some hardware purchasing decisions based on how much longer it is going be before the Mac version of ZBrush 3 is released. I have been playing with ZBrush 3 under Windows on my MacBook but my main workstation is a G5. My G5 is loaded with RAM, hard drives, mutiple displays and my Cintiq tablet. The bottom line is that it will cost me several thousand dollars to upgrade to a new Mac Intel Tower just so I can run zBrush under Windows.

I agree it would be nice to know an approximate e.t.a. for the mac version, but maybe Pixologic will surprise us with a mac release sooner than later!

Yea I run ZBrush 2.0 on my Mac. Fortunately i have a PC too so i can install ZBrush 3.0 on that and work from either machine.

There arent any other company’s out there that i can think of that would give you that flexibility… not to mention give away the next update to all registered users for free

Thanks Pixologic

I am not trying to push Pixologic for a quick release. If they tell me that the Mac version will be out in a couple of weeks I will not buy a new Mac. If they say it will be 3 to 6 months I probably will buy a new mac this week. I just need an “idea” of how long we are looking at.

If my Cintiq would work properly with a KVM switch I might be able to hold out longer.

Pixologic. please give us an approximate date as we mac users need some sort of idea. Is it weeks months or a year away?

Thanks

Man…if only we had thought of a thread like this a year and a half ago…Pixo would have just told us when Z3 was coming out…

Sorry guys, Im just kidding. I feel for you.

A lot of please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please… please!
Why we do not get any answer? :td:
The only thing we know we have to buy a #@windows machine or a new Mac. Grrr

just wondering if there’s any update on this?

GET A PC!! LOL

Anyway, when they released Z3, I heard somewhere it’d be about 6 months after the release of the PC version for the mac version to be released.

So… No games, no ZB? Get a PC. :stuck_out_tongue:

Heh, why get a PC when you can get both? No need to troll in this forum.

Anyhow, Aurick said that it was expected that Z3 Mac would take about as long as Z2 Mac did (six months give or take a couple of months.)

That puts Z3 Mac at around November 2007 to Jan 2008. I don’t think they’ll have anything usable to say until they get more work done it. They’ve also stated that their efforts are going into Z3.1 right now, so I’d probably add another month to the schedule.

hi,

i hope and think they will set priority on the bugfixes first. it would be in your interest as maxc users too.

you may try out bootcamp, afaik it works same as our native pc versions do.
a co-worker of me is mac fanatic, and works all the day long with the bootcamp and zb2/3 versions. he seems to have less crashes/problems as me…

it wont hurt to get bootcamp and use it until the native mac release

Hey, for all it’s worth, maybe the mac version will be 64 bit in conjunction with the release of that new OS X that is purely 64 bit comin’ out later this year. With all the performance increases and so on that isn’t reflected in x64 windows. SO, you mac users will have more to brag about against us PC users later on. LOL
But for now, give us a slack and let us brag that we got Z3 running on our PCs for a change. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, if emotionally helps to brag on the internet, play-on . . .

I thought they were going to tell us a date for Z3 for Mac when the released Z3 for Win…

Now 3.1 for Win and no word on Mac? …

Well, not very happy indeed. On the other hand, we get the displacement exporter right from the start. Not if that’s a major relief.

So, “When” is tha answer. Would like to have a happy christmas this year.

Thanks

Look on the bright side. At least now you know why the mac realease is not ready ;¬)

Some release date would be nice. I have no intention to use windows -version on my mac, because it just hinders the work flow so badly. This means that I just have to wait… and wait… and wait.

Sad really, because I love the Zbrush.

I wouldn’t bother on the Mac. I’ve invested literally dozens of hours to get ZB3 work well with Wacom tablets and Cintiqs in VMware and it’s very unsatisfying compared to the PC version. The latest release, ZB 3.1, uses OpenGL functions above the level that is supported in the Mac emulators (VMware, Parallels) so you’re pretty much screwed unless you want to use bootcamp.

I’ve defended Pix for a long time, but I’d give up on Z3 until Pix gets serious about supporting the Mac platform. The current release is simply insult added to injury and their is no nice way to suger-coat that,

Fortunately, if you’re interested in sculpting and painting on the Mac, Modo 301 is just around the corner (it’s currently in release candidate with its beta testers.) As someone who has been privilaged to work with 301, with direct sculpting of mesh, displacement, and bump maps, I cannot see much need to for ZB3 in the future, as much as ZB won a place in my heart a few years ago.
