I happen to have the latest version of zbrush, and a rather old version of maya…maya 8 64bit to be precise
i am having a heck of a time with displacements in maya 8…i have followed almost every tutorial i can find but most are for later versions of maya and or dealing with 16bit displacements…
so here is my current workflow…
-export 32bit (3channel) tiff from zbrush
-use a tiff to .map converter to change the tiff to a .map file (seems to only work on the 3 channel tiff)
-use the file in a displacement node, settung the 2d placement node to -1 in V
-assign the alpha gain to 2.2 and offset to -1.1
-set up a mental ray approximation node to parametric with 4 or 5 as a value.
so just a few questions…
does maya 8 support the 32bit displacements?(if you can remember back then)
my results seem terribly inconsistent, in one instance scaling the model in maya by a factor of 10 seemed to help…
and in other renders changing the mental ray approximation node from a setting of 4 to 5 caused the model to explode with verticies all over the place.
so i’m kinda at a loss and there are so many variables to play with…i’m just wondering if anyone can remember back to the maya 8 days, and figure out a good workflow with the current zbrush displacement exporters
thanks
