ZBrush 3.5

The only feature I really want, is the one from MB2009; NO LUMPY STROKES!! It would be a Godsend…

render depth relative to a nearby opposing poly for sss maps would be nice, but yeah as someone mentioned already, it be cool if you could create a generic camera or pull one out that was premade, like a 35mm, and had accurate depth effects, lenses curve, and such, and so that you could switch them all out or tweak them. also saving your settings and then hitting a switch that said load every time for all the tools including the ones in projection master would be nice. the hard edge and base modeling tools like mentioned before would also be awesome, with very intuitive ways of doing things like organic bevels, and taking a tool and wrapping, hugging and tiling across and affecting spines or surfaces. also a tool inside of zb that would merge tools and one that allowed you to compress a model to a certain size and it would do so, tri’s would be fine, but if it could do so using quads, by adding an extra, or removing an extra edge loop at the lowest sub-div would be awesome, this way you could export the model into a lesser poly intensive app for map extraction, rendering, animation, printing or whatever, instead of having to use an extra app to do so. also improved projection and retopo intelligence would be cool.

hmmmm…

so we’re comin’ up on the end of 2008… any news regarding a 3.12 for pc or better yet a 3.5?

anyone hear anything?

also some auto generation of wear like dirt reyes, you pick various materials, various weathering effects, it should be easy and bakes it into your textures or pixols, it would make all those decisions based on normal direction and rays cast and cavity/concavity, depth.

Just tried out Mudbox 2009, its not as fast as Zbrush 3 but I must say the maps that it ports out are excellent.

Also sculpting across UV Seams doesn’t seem to be a problem at all, I tried doing some crazy detailing across seams and the displacement and normal map work just fine when I rendered it out in Max.

I guess I’m still used to ZBrush and its almighty sub tool goodness, not to mention its brush set is just way out there.

Here’s my wishlist for Z3.5:

  1. Seamless map creation across multiple UV Tiles.
  2. Displacement and Normal Map support for HD Geometry
  3. Possibly related to 1) Smoothing on Subdivision to be similar to 3d apps?
Im not too sure about this but I feel when Mudbox subdivides, it reacts the same way as the turbosmooth in Max.

Cheers!

Projected proportion guidelines. Basically you would set the length of the head, manually. Than you would enter how many heads tall your character is. After that a marking every headlength should appear to help with getting proportions just right.

I would love to see decent tagent based symmetry like mudbox.
Using Transpose Master plugin you can hav a really complex model with lots of subtools…but it would be super kool if you could then pose these subtools anyway u like and still be able to sculpt in symmetry!

Any news from siggraph yet?

Sonder!

(sorry for my english) i hope ZB 3.5 will be 64 bit native application without 4GB RAM limitation: this my primary request to next version of ZB.
In a minor way also i hope to “normal” translator tools without using the “action line” tool (or to “transpose” functions only…) but simply clicking to move, rotate and scale… And the possibility to click-selecting polygons directly on them without hiding the rest… at a glance, something like mudbox selection and translation tools (the only things i like to MB instead of ZB that i prefer clearly)…

Sonder, are you looking for something different that how zbrush uses poseable symmetry? Because it works fine on posed subtools as long as they have symmetrical topology, just like mudbox.

The symmetry doesn’t work aswell as mudbox.
For example…I just modelled a completely symmetrical creature model, went into zbrush, posed it, and then turned on symmetry under transform menu, and then I get the message symmetry map not stored!
But in mudbox u can bring in a pose model and it works spot on everytime!

The Zbrush possable symmetry stuff is real finicky. If you don’t have a uninterrupted edge that splits your model right down the center, it will not work at all. And even with extremely simple shapes, it fails too often.

Agreed! Posable symmetry (ZB) is not nearly as robust as Mudbox’s tangent space symmetry (1.0) .

Features that i want from zbrush 3.5 is:

  • More better renderer, that can render reflection, real sss
  • Better light and material (material capture is cool, but if using more than one lights is goes weird)
  • Box modeling in zbrush
  • Better Hair tool, more control on hair (hair Sculpt?)
  • Layer for color and texture, multiple texture, and layer effects like photoshop
  • Better tool for position, rotate and scale for 3d object on layer and grouping 3d subtool

I know it bit too much  , but i think zbrush is not for sculpting only, it useful to create illustration, 2.5D illustration.

Totally agree, particularly about better translation tools (move-rotate-scale, without just the action line tool only that’s good for transpose but uncomfortable to object translations), rendering improvements and better and dedicated hair tool (very useful feature!:+1:)
In my wishlist i want add these requests:

  1. native 64 bit version.
  2. simply click-selecting polygons to selection sets.
In every case, Thank You very much to Pix for your efforts and skills.

Agreed!

I’m kind of hoping for new interface options to make it more streamlined in ways. Different UI screens for sculpting, painting, etc… Granted you can do that with plugins but they’re kind of clunky. I just often feel distracted by the UI, I want a smoother experience.

There’s also the 3D Depth Zcam thats supposedly coming out this year or possibly not ever… I love the idea of using your hands and hand gestures instead of mouse/keyboard/tablet, etc.

Either way, here’s hoping we’ll get to see 3.5 this year.

Hello December! (check local listings) Now where is my 3.5?

Q4 2008 means !Сonditionally!..it may be the beginning of 2009 year…so…just wait  Cheers!

We are waiting and i am sure it will be worth our while, as we know our socks are going to be knocked off…

I still haven’t found my socks since the release of ZB3
